February 13, 2020 WYOMING GOVERNOR MARK GORDON SIGNS FIRST 2020 EXECUTIVE ORDER PROTECTING MULE DEER AND ANTELOPE MIGRATION CORRIDORS
On February 13, 2020, Governor Mark Gordon signed Order 2020-1, the Wyoming Mule Deer and Antelope Migration Corridor Protection, which designates the existing Sublette Mule Deer, Baggs Mule Deer and Platte Valley Mule Deer migration corridors and establishes a process to create new migration corridors in Wyoming. In issuing the order, Governor Gordon indicated dual goals to protect Wyoming wildlife and at the same time support Wyoming’s economy where public and state lands are used by multiple industries for multiple purposes. The Executive Order precludes the Federal Government from deferring oil and gas lease sales when wildlife protections are a concern without first coordinating with the State of Wyoming. The order expressly protects valid existing rights and invites state and local agencies to conform their existing lands use plans and infrastructure projects to the order’s provisions and goals.
