February 21, 2020 BLM RELEASES FINAL ENVIRONMENT IMPACT STATEMENT FOR THE MONETA DIVIDE OIL AND GAS PROJECT IN WYOMING
On February 21, 2020, the BLM released its final Environmental Impact Statement for the Moneta Divide Natural Gas and Oil Development Project in Wyoming. The project, submitted by Aethon Energy Operating, LLC and Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Company, proposes oil and gas exploration and production on approximately 327,645 acres of land located in Fremont, Natrona and Sweetwater Counties, roughly 67 percent of which is federal. The project could yield more than 4,200 oil and gas wells over 15 years and also involves facilities and pipeline construction. In finalizing the EIS, the BLM considered a range of alternatives and extensive public comment on the draft EIS. Along with the BLM’s recommended action, the final EIS also includes an amendment to the Casper Resource Management Plan. The final EIS is subject to a 60-day Governor’s consistency reviewand a 30-day protest period.
