June 10, 2020 COGCC UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTS NEW WELLBORE INTEGRITY RULES
On June 10, 2020, the COGCC successfully completed the remote Wellbore Integrity Rulemaking and unanimously adopted new Wellbore Integrity Rules which will become effective November 2, 2020. The Wellbore Integrity Rulemaking was a result of a collaborative process between industry subject matter experts, the Environmental Defense Fund, and several environmental organizations. The hearing was uncontentious and the Rulemaking Parties, stakeholders, public participants and the Commissioners expressed great appreciation for the consensus Rules and the collaborative stakeholder process. Jost Energy Law is incredibly proud to have been involved in the tremendous efforts that went into the stakeholder process and resulting Rules. The Wellbore Integrity Rules are part of the SB19-181 Rulemaking process and focus on increased protections for groundwater throughout the entire life cycle of an oil and gas well. The adopted Rules will be posted to the COGCC website here:
